Fairfax CASA Success – Trevor’s Story
Trevor* was removed from his mother’s care in October of 2020 due to physical abuse. A CASA was assigned and began to work with Trevor. The CASA immediately recognized that there were cultural differences regarding appropriate punishment. Trevor also had serious behavioral issues that caused friction in his foster home and in school. Throughout the case, Trevor’s CASA was a source of stability and support for him. She served as a catalyst of communication between his school, teachers, therapist, and the other support members of Trevor’s team. Trevor’s CASA showed both him and his mother patience, and encouraged Trevor’s mother to practice that same patience and understanding with him. She advocated for school staff and teachers to connect with Trevor’s mother to resolve any behavioral issues that arose. Today, Trevor is back in his mother’s care, as she complied with all Court orders and the Department’s requests and requirements. Both Trevor and his mother are better equipped to function as a successful family thanks to the advocacy and support they both received during this process.
